Lab experiments are conducted in order to characterize the geomechanical properties of the rocks in the storage system, before but also during the CO2 injection.

These geomechanical parameters determined through experimentation are integrated into thermal, hydraulically and mechanically coupled dynamic models (dynamic models from sub-project 4.2 expanded by adding the simulation of geomechanical processes), and these in turn are used to make predictions about injection-related geomechanical processes and their effects on the integrity of the cap rock. In particular, the possibility of reactivation of disruption systems, development of cracks and aboveground deformations is evaluated.
