COMPLETE research project

COMPLETE - stands for CO2 post-injection monitoring and post-closure phase at the Ketzin pilot site.

Since 2004, research on the storage of CO2 in a deep saline aquifer is being conducted at the Ketzin pilot site. The CO2 injection was successfully carried out between June 2008 and August 2013 and accompanied by one of the world´s most extensive monitoring programs. The COMPLETE project continues the previous projects (e.g. CO2SINK and CO2MAN) with further research in Ketzin since January 2014.

With its focus on the post-injection and closure phase, COMPLETE will:

  • for the first time ever close the complete life-time cycle of a CO2 storage site at pilot scale,
  • expand knowledge on post-injection monitoring and long term site behaviour, and
  • provide first-hand experiences on site abandonment.

The work within the COMPLETE project is devided into three subject areas and supported by public outreach and the information center at the Ketzin site.

COMPLETE is sheduled to run for four years (Januar 2014 - Dezember 2017). The project receives its funding from Germany Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) (Grant Agreement number 03G0842A).

It is further supported by industry partners from Germany and abroad, the Norwegian CLIMIT programme and the GFZ.
