reports about intelligent drills at the Ketzin pilot site

Deep-drilling techniques used in CO2 storage projects are already well established in the oil and gas industry. However, in scientific projects such as the Ketzin pilot site there are differences with regard to the construction and the technical equipment of the wellbores. So-called intelligent wells with integrated sensors and cables are developed and tested for scientific investigations and the monitoring of the CO2 storage reservoir.

The four deep wells at Ketzin are used for the exploration, reservoir characterization and monitoring purposes. With a maximum depth of 800 m the wells reach down to the entire storage complex and thus offer the only opportunity to obtain samples and data directly out of the storage and its caprock.
