South African delegation at the Ketzin Pilot Site

Within the frame of a GIZ-project (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit), a delegation of the Republic of South Africa visited the Ketzin pilot site on 27 May 2015 to get on-site information and to discuss geological and technical details of geological CO2 storage.

Currently, the Republic of South Africa generates 93% of its electricity by domestic coal and is therefore one of the 15 largest carbon dioxide emitters in the world. Beside renewable energy, which is consistently pushed forward since 2008 at large scale, a CO2 reduction of the coal-fired power plants by means of CCS is an option which is currently being investig
