Start of CO2 back-production test

At the Ketzin pilot site, a CO2 back-production test will be carried out at one well from October 14 to 28, 2014. The company Weatherford Energy Services GmbH will conduct the work on behalf of GFZ. The CO2 which has been stored in the subsurface since 2008 will be monitored and thermodynamic data (pressure, temperature) will be acquired. In addition, the chemical composition of the back-produced CO2 and its atmospheric distribution will be monitored. Over the period of two weeks, it is planned to back-produce about 500 to 1,000 tons of CO2 from the reservoir. The Minining Authority (Landesamt für Bergbau, Geologie und Rohstoffe (LBGR)) has permitted the test which will be done with 24-hours operation.
